The Strangers are a mysterious new race that emerged following a catastrophic storm in Haven, where an ancient, dormant waygate unexpectedly activated. This storm heralded the arrival of the first Stranger, staggering from the waygate with disoriented tales of places unknown and landscapes foreign to the people of Ardellis. In the days and weeks following, a slow but steady influx of Strangers has continued, each an enigma from realms unheard of, speaking of distant lands and cultures that defy local understanding.

While Haven’s residents have cautiously welcomed these Strangers, the mystery surrounding their origins and intentions creates a wary curiosity. Known for their sometimes foreign appearances and even stranger tales, the Strangers represent various, unheard-of races with distinct customs and unique physical abilities, making it challenging to categorize them easily. Each new arrival brings with them stories and insights into worlds vastly different from those familiar to the Ardelan.

Since the waygate’s activation, whispers circulate among the people of Haven, with many claiming to sense a dark, intangible presence looming ever closer. This shadow, as they call it, seems to haunt the town, lingering in the minds of its residents as a foreboding omen. Some describe a subtle chill in the air, others swear by strange, fleeting visions at dusk, and a sense of unease grips the hearts of even the town’s most stoic citizens. Superstitions grow as quickly as the rumors, with some saying the Strangers themselves are harbingers of something darker, drawn to Haven by an unseen force.

  • For Pre-Alpha, Onward will allow players to recreate dead characters from other Muds. The arrival of the Strangers will be integral to the plotline of Pre-Alpha.
  • A stranger can be any character from another Mud who has died. They will retain all knowledge of their prior lives, but their bodies will be as if newly formed, devoid of scars of physical trials: the body can be any age above that of ten.
  • A stranger will not necessarily be capable of special feats, such as magic, they might once have had access to. Their body has reformed, but some things seem changed.
  • To play a Stranger, please submit a ticket at www.onwardmud.com/requests
  • Detail which Mud the character originates from, provide as much insight into their history, wishes, goals, personality, and logs, if possible. No information is too much.
