Night Guard
Town Guard / Security
Title: The Night Guard
The Night Guard is Brightfells primary defence force, responsible for maintaining peace within the town and protecting the vital trade routes that connect Brightfell to neighbouring cities. As their name suggests, they are most active after dusk, patrolling the streets and forest paths by lantern light. Many believe the lanterns contain Firlight from Caeloth.
Members of the Night Guard are trained in both combat and tracking, as they must be able to handle threats from both the wild fauna and potential bandits. There are several branches of the Night Guard, and we can work out which will best go with each individual concept. In the aftermath of the storm, these branches will all be working together against the crisis.
Storm Aftermath: With roads to Aerith and Caeloth blocked by debris, the Night Guard is under extra strain. Their duties have tripled: there's rumours of bandits massing in the forests and on the fringes of isolated farmsteads. Trade caravans are stranded and the towns economy is under threat, while other dangers seem to lurk just out of sight.
The largest sect of the Night Guard are active during dangerous hours, patrolling forest roads, overlooking farmland, or safeguarding travelers forced to journey after dark. The Guard also monitors footpaths through the ever-restless forests, where bandits or creatures often lurk to ambush merchant caravans. By Lake Lyss, they keep an eye on suspicious activity like rumored smugglers shipping out precious pearl and also investigate the cargo of merchants passing through the town for contraband.
The Night Guard is also responsible for providing aid to other smaller settlements when under threat or investigating disturbances nearby the local ruins. Overall, it's responsible for the safety of the town.
